The California Groundwater Association (CGA) held its 61st Annual Convention and Trade Show, Nov. 5-7, 2009, in Reno, Nev.

The full slate of educational events ranged from all-day workshops to concise tools of the trade sessions, and professional seminars, including the popular 2009 McEllhiney lecture. Contractors explored topics such as ground source heat pump installation, well design and development issues, implementing a safety program, VFD analysis, water treatment, drilling fluids, air emission and more. There were 75 exhibits to peruse with displays representing all facets of the industry. Conference-goers also got down to business with member and manufacturer/supplier meetings.

But by no means was it all work and no play. Allowing attendees to take advantage of the convention’s location, social events included a golf tournament, poker and blackjack tournaments, as well as cocktail receptions. Further social opportunities abounded with luncheons, the banquet, auction and awards ceremony, and concluded with a theme party as the expo’s grand finale.

Among the awards given, Jim Piasecki was recognized by the state’s contractors for his hard work and dedication, and received the 2009 California Groundwater Association Manufacturer/Supplier of the Year Award at the convention. Matt Rypka of Pace Supply Corp., who presented the award, said, “Jim’s customer service, trouble-shooting, and technical support he provides, is second to none. Jim is one of the hardest-working people I have had the pleasure to work with. This is a well earned award for an exceptional business partner.”

Be sure to mark your calendars: In 2010, CGA will host its 62nd convention Nov. 4-6, this time in Sparks, Nev.
