Seabees Drill for Water as
Part of Deployment to Peru

Eighteen U.S. Navy Seabees are midway through the completion of a water well construction project in support of New Horizons-Peru 2008, a humanitarian effort focused on bringing vital quality-of-life projects to the people of the Ayacucho region. The team of construction engineers is scheduled to construct two wells by mid-August.

Researchers Drill a Nearly 500-foot Ice Core
A ice core longer than 1.5 football fields drilled in the McCall Glacier in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge this summer may offer researchers their first quantitative look at up to two centuries of climate change in the region.

Boart Longyear Acquires Westrod Engineering
The acquisition makes the company a global provider of reverse circulation consumables.

Drilling Blamed
For Mud Volcano

A mud volcano, which has caused millions of dollars worth of damage, was caused by the drilling of a gas exploration well, a team of scientists has concluded. The two-year-old mud volcano, Lusi, still is spewing huge volumes of mud, and has displaced more than 30,000 people.

Scientists Develop New Model to Map Arsenic Contamination
A new method of detecting arsenic contamination without ground water analysis shows that Southeast Asia is at high risk for excessive levels in its ground water. Based on surface sediments and soil properties, the new model enables accurate conclusions to be drawn regarding chemical and physical conditions in ground water.

Elderly Woman Drowns in Well
A 75-year-old South African woman drowned while trying to draw water from a village well. The lack of tap water in the village makes visits to the well necessary for both consumption and household use. The water shortage is blamed on "common thugs" who vandalized a number of boreholes. It's such third incident since 2006 - two other elderly villagers also have died while trying to get water from the well.

Rigless Well Abandonment

Reduce mobilization and fuel costs by not driving your drill rig to each and every well abandonment project. Using Max's Enterprises' heavy-duty, hydraulic rigless abandonment unit, simply attach to your receiver hitch on your truck or SUV, and use Max's 2-inch well extraction tool to remove shallow PVC riser and screen, or Max's internal cutting tool to remove the upper three feet of well casing.
