Drill Cores Help
Revise History

Re-sizing history: New archaeological fieldwork shows an Ohio site to be an ancient water works, not a fort. Drill cores produced sediments that reveal the Shawnee site indeed was used for irrigation purposes.

Students Work with Kenyan Village to Improve Water Supply
Members of the Engineers Without Borders chapter at the University of Massachusetts Amherst recently returned from a three-week trip to Kenya, where they worked to improve drinking water for a rural farming village.

Bits and Pieces

From around the industry

  • According to a recent Asbury Park Press article, the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection reports that one in eight private wells in New Jersey is contaminated. The 51,028 wells were tested from Sept. 2002 to April 2007 under the Private Well Testing Act of 2001. Officials are encouraging additional testing.

  • An article in the Denver Post reports that oil and gas drillers in Colorado are facing more stringent rules at drilling sites. Among the 50 new rules passed by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to manage the natural gas drilling boom are tighter safety and water regulations.

New GPS Tracking Device
For Heavy Equipment

AnyDATA Corp. has introduced the AnyTrack GPS-120, a real-time theft prevention and inventory management tracking solution for heavy equipment. The AnyTrack GPS-120, paired with the proprietary tracking system, monitors the location of high-value, mobile equipment anywhere in the United States. Equipment locations can be monitored through secure access to the system through the Internet; no software is needed. The device also enables owners to place a virtual, GPS-enabled perimeter around the tracked equipment. If the equipment is moved beyond the boundary, the tracking system issues an alert via mobile text message or email. Automatic tracking provides real-time location data to aid in recovery. It is connected to the equipment's 12V power, and includes an internal battery to power the device when the ignition is turned off.

For more information about the device, visit www.anydata.com.
