The Georgia World Congress Center Authority soon will be able to water its green space and turn its fountains back on after a water ban that went into effect October 2007. While water restrictions still are in place, the 200-acre campus no longer will be as much of a strain on the local water supply. Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, the GWCCA has bored two 660-foot deep wells, which will be used for watering lawns and plants, as well as operating ornamental water features.
Scientists Launch Drill Rig off New Jersey Shore Early one morning in late April, an international team of researchers with the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program launched the New Jersey Shallow Shelf Expedition, taking advantage of the high tide to sail to the continental shelf just off the New Jersey shore. There, they will conduct coring operations to collect geological sediments that will inform them about Earth cycles that relate to sea level change.
Pumping and Treating Polluted Mine Water Researchers may be close to finding a solution after identifying a way of pumping and treating the mine water to tackle the pollution seeping from old ironstone mine workings in the United Kingdom. An existing shaft or a new borehole could drain away the polluted water, instead of letting it coming to the surface in the Saltburn Gill Nature Reserve.
Solar Project Helps Provide Clean Well Water An engineering-student design team at Virginia Tech is creating a photovoltaic system to provide a medical clinic in Kenya with a desperately needed source of power. Electric power generated will provide clean well water, refrigerated vaccines and more.
New Industry Report Released Research and Markets has added the "2009 U.S. Water & Sewer Line Construction Industry Report" to its offering. The report, published annually, contains industry statistics, forecasts and demographics, and includes estimates on up to 10 sub-industries, including water well drilling, water main construction and geothermal drilling.
Desalination Could Be Becoming More Affordable Treating brackish water for human consumption "can be done and be done affordably," researchers say. The cost of providing fresh water has risen, while the cost of treating saline and brackish water has decreased.

FORMULAS AND CALCULATIONS FOR DRILLING, PRODUCTION AND WORKOVER
-- $120.75
Separate chapters deal with calculations for drilling fluids, pressure control, and engineering (Examples provided). Virtually all the mathematics required out on the drilling rig is here in one convenient source, including formulas for pressure gradient, specific gravity, pump output, annular velocity, buoyancy factor, volume and stroke, slug weight, drill string design, cementing, depth of washout, bulk density of cuttings, and stuck pipe.
