Project Profile

100_Villages_installation

Humanitarian Efforts Create Clean Water
On Indonesian Moluccas, many people still are living without access to clean water. Every day, they use many hours on procuring water from streams or from boats bringing drinking water to the islands. Thanks to a combined effort on the 100 Villages project, however, those conditions will be changed for 100 villages on the islands: The goal is to improve the standard of living considerably for the inhabitants of the villages.

Study Determines Amazon River Is 11 Million Years Old
The Amazon River originated as a transcontinental river around 11 million years ago, and took its present shape approximately 2.4 million years ago, according to the results of a new drilling study.

Water's Role in Green Building
Over the next five years, water efficiency and conservation will become critical factors in green design, construction and product selection, according to McGraw-Hill Construction's latest SmartMarket Report, "Water Use in Buildings." Architecture and engineering firms, contractors and owners report that water efficiency is rapidly becoming a higher priority than other aspects of green building, such as energy efficiency and waste reduction.

New Water Desalination Field Study a Success
Researchers are working to create a new mini-mobile-modular "smart" water desalination and filtration system. The system was demonstrated at a recent field study in the San Joaquin Valley in which it desalted agricultural drainage water that was nearly saturated with calcium

sulfate salts, accomplishing the task with one reverse osmosis stage.

Pentair Water Scholarship Winners
Pentair Water announces the winners of the 2009 Pentair Water Award Dealers Sons and Daughters Scholarship Program.

New Research on Plutonium Ground Water Contamination
Scientists are working to better determine how, when and why plutonium moves in soil and ground water. Plutonium can move on small particulates often are found in ground water. A new study will help researchers understand the conditions that control whether plutonium migrates or remains immobile.

Testing Instrument for Mars Ground Water Detection
A new instrument has potential to detect ground water deep underground on Mars. The unit uses electromagnetic induction, a method commonly used in ground water exploration.
