Pumps for Burj Khalifa The recent official opening of the world's tallest structure in Dubai made headline news all around the world. Built at a cost of $1.5 billion, the final height of Burj Khalifa - formerly known as Burj Dubai - that was only announced at the official opening is a mind-boggling 2,716 feet.
Delivering on such an unprecedented project was a major logistical challenge, and Grundfos Pumps GGD was part of the solution.
The new structure is home to a 160-room hotel, a range of businesses and retail outlets, as well as more than 1,000 luxury apartments. All of these facilities require clean water to be delivered to, as well as dirty water to be removed from, what is to all intents and purposes a vertical city. Playing this role are a small army of 82 Grundfos SENV submersible pumps, 27 AP pumps submersible drainage and effluent pumps suitable for a wide range of such applications.
Ensuring the delivery of hot/cold water is an important priority, and Grundfos also supplied 42 CRN stainless steel multistage centrifugal pumps and three Hydro MPC booster sets.

Deepest Hole in Ocean Crust in Scientific Ocean Drilling History For eight weeks beginning in November 2009, off the coast of New Zealand, an international team on board the scientific drilling vessel
JOIDES Resolution (JR) investigated sea-level change in a region called the Canterbury Basin. It proved to be a record-breaking trip. The research team drilled four sites in the seafloor. One site marked the deepest hole drilled by the JR on the continental shelf, and another was the deepest hole drilled on a single expedition in the history of scientific ocean drilling.

More Evidence Links Exploration Well to Mud Volcano
The drilling firm Lapindo Brantas has denied that a nearby gas exploration well was the trigger for the mud volcano in East Java, Indonesia, in 2006, instead blaming the earthquake that occurred 174 miles away. But, according to an

international scientific team, new data links the well and the volcano: Its report
cites that pulling the drill string and bit while the hole was unstable
caused the disaster.

| Water Well Contamination Studied
New United States Geological Survey ground water studies explain what, when and how contaminants may reach public supply wells. All wells are not equally vulnerable to contamination because of differences in three factors - the general chemistry of the aquifer, ground water age, and direct paths within
