GEI Consultants has added geotechnical expert Jesús Gómez to its firm as a vice president. He will lead the geotechnical and geostructural practice while the firm expands its presence into the Philadelphia region.

During the past 30 years, Gómez has acquired design and construction experience in geotechnical projects in the U.S., South America and the Caribbean.

"The expertise, talent and strategic understanding of new geotechnical technologies and trends Jesús brings to our firm is a real strength as we advance our presence and expand our services in the Philadelphia market," says Patrick P. King, a GEI vice president and east operations manager. "He will be a true asset to our existing and future clients."

Gómez holds bachelor’s, master's and doctorate degrees in civil engineering. He’s served as a lead designer for numerous geotechnical projects and has extensive experience in deep foundations. Projects he led involved micropiles, soil nailing, single bore multiple anchors, compressive anchors and removable anchors.

Notable projects he led include the remediation of the movements of the Seawall and North Plaza of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C., and the remediation of the seawalls around Ellis Island in the New York harbor.

Most recently, Gómez was a principal at Schnabel Engineering Inc. and a chief engineer for the Venezuelan Branch of Franki Foundations.
