Chuck Ellsworth of Ellsworth Well and Pump of Marion, OH, is the new president of the Ohio Water Well Association (OWWA), Ellsworth was elected at OWWA's 2000 Convention Nov. 9-10 in Columbus, OH. He has served on the organization's board several years and has been president of District 1. He is a member of the Ohio Department of Health's Private Water Systems Advisory Board.

His family has been in the water well industry since 1929, having dug wells and cable tool and rotary drilling throughout central Ohio. Ellsworth succeeds Jeff Hardman as OWWA president.

Other officers and trustees elected at the Convention are: Steve Wright, Frontz Drilling Co., vice president, Paul McAdams, GeoTek Drilling Co, secretary-treasurer; manufacturer/supplier trustees at large for three-year terms, Jon Monger, Central Pump & Supply; John Christ, Baroid-IDP.

Five drilling rigs were on display for the OWWA Convention.
Three OWWA members were inducted as Life Members during the Convention. The new Life Members are Don Ault, Global Drilling Suppliers, Inc.; Mark Fredebaugh, Fredebaugh Well Drilling; and Don Harley, Harley Drilling and Pumps. The trio join eight other living life members of the OWWA.

The OWWA also paid tribute to William Carl Treadway and Lorin Snell, OWWA members who died during the past year. Treadway was an OWWA past president and the first Master Well Contractor in Ohio. Snell was a long-time member who operated Snell Well Drilling and Pumps in Lorin, OH.

Convention activities featured seminars on medical savings accounts and constant pressure systems; a silent auction to raise money for OWWA scholarships; NGWA Certification exams; and an annual meeting and annual banquet.

The Product Exposition held in conjunction with the Convention featured booths for 42 exhibitors and five drilling rigs were displayed in an outdoor exhibit area.

A total of 295 people attended the Convention, including 141 representatives from 52 contractor firms, plus representatives of manufacturers and suppliers and guests.

The 2000 silent auction raised $1,929 for the OWWA Scholarship Fund. Six students received OWWA scholarship assistance in 1999 with funds raised from last year's silent auction.
