Customers of the Zelienople Borough, Butler County, Pa., water system will finally have clean water to drink, thanks to a consent agreement between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and AK Steel, Middletown, OH. The agreement requires AK Steel to reduce the amount of nitrate it discharges to the Connoquenessing Creek from its plant in Butler, Pa., to 999 pounds per day by Oct. 31, 2002, so that it no longer poses a threat to Zelienople customers.
