EPA Grant Completed
The American Groundwater Trust recently completed a $17,000 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant project to improve and protect groundwater resources and water quality of the Quinebaug River Watershed in Connecticut. The Trust developed a manual, "Best Management Practices To Reduce Non-Point Source Pollution In The Town Of Plainfield, Connecticut," and prepared a map of land use areas. Both the manual and map will be available on the Trust's Web site (www.agwt.org) during 2001 so other towns may benefit from a similar approach and process.
During the grant project, the Trust worked with representatives from the Town of Plainfield and a project coordinator with the Natural Resources Conservation Service. In its final presentation to town officials, citizens and EPA representatives, the Trust identified the importance of increasing public awareness of non-point source impacts through education and information.
