AWWA Names 2001 Officers
President-elect for the organization is Lynn Stovall, a 22-year AWWA member and South Carolina section director. He is general manager of the Greenville, SC, Water System, which has some 200 employees. A professional engineer, Stovall previously served as an AWWA vice president and serves on the group's Membership, Nominations, Young Professionals and Partnership for Safe Water committees.
Elected as AWWA vice presidents were Yasser M. AbouAish, Kenneth J. Brothers, Dennis R. Leslie, Katie McCain and A.T. Rolan. Noel B. Grant was elected as director-at-large for the organization.
AbouAish has been an AWWA member for 11 years and served as a director-at-large on the Board of Directors. He is superintendent of operations for the Minneapolis, MN Water Works. He has been an AWWA member since 1990 and has been involved in the waste water and drinking water fields for 22 years.
Brothers, manager of operations for the Halifax, Nova Scotia Regional Water Commission, has also been an AWWA member since 1990. A civil engineer, Brothers is vice president of Water For People-Canada and was president of the Canadian Water and Wastewater Association in 1995-96.
Leslie has served as general manager of the North Park Public Water District near Rockford, IL since 1978. He was certified as a public water supply operator, Class B, in 1975. Leslie has been an AWWA member since 1976 and chaired the Distribution and Plant Operations Division.
Ms. McCain is regional manager for the Industrial-Utility Sales Co. and has served as an AWWA member for 15 years. She is certified as a water and wastewater operator and as an engineering technician. She is also active in the Water Environment Foundation, the Texas Water Utilities Association, the Institution of Water Officers and the National Association of Women in Construction.
Rolan has served as director of the North Carolina Section and has served three years as a board trustee for the AWWA Research Foundation. He holds a master's degree in environmental chemistry and biology and is the environmental resources director for the city of Durham, NC.
Grant, the new AWWA Board director-at-large, is director of customer relations for the New Haven, CT Regional Water Authority. Grant, who is a member of the National Academy of Science and holds an MBA degree, has been active in AWWA for more than 15 years.
