Vermeer Manufacturing Co., Pella, Iowa, recently used the Staggenborg quarry in Hermann, Mo., as a classroom to demonstrate its full line of equipment for drilling in rock. In attendance were approximately 12 factory representatives, as well as 90 dealer personnel and their customers from Minnesota, Kansas, Iowa, Tennessee, Indiana, Missouri and Illinois. It was designed to provide a local forum for communication and general education in the rapidly changing rock drilling industry.

A half-dozen HDD machines bored through rock, and demonstrations were conducted on the RockFire AS4 pneumatic rock drilling system and the RS6 mechanical rock drilling tool. A patent-pending Hunting Performance mud motor, which has the unique feature of having the sonde housing located directly behind the bit, was demonstrated, too.

This same program was presented in Ohio, and sessions also have been conducted in North Carolina and Iowa as well. Additional sessions have been planned for Austin, Texas, on Oct. 25 and in the Southwest later in the autumn. For more information, contact the Vermeer Training Department at 641-621-7691.
