Atlas Copco Unveils New Reverse Circulation Rig
May 16, 2013
Atlas Copco recently launched the Explorac 235, a new reverse circulation rig designed for the exploration sector. The Explorac 236 can drill to 1,200 feet.
The new rig, which is not currently available in North America, is designed for reverse circulation and other down-the-hole drilling jobs, and is ready for mounting on a truck or crawler chassis.
Atlas Copco says the reverse circulation’s cost efficiency and sample quality have increased the method’s popularity for initial exploration, ore body development and in-pit grade control.
“The launch of Explorac 235 is a firm response to increasing demand for personal safety and environmental care,” said Martin Sommers, vice president of marketing–capital equipment for the company’s Geotechnical Drilling and Exploration division. “It offers the efficiency and performance required by contractors, such as fast setup and drilling speeds, easy maintenance, reduced noise levels and minimum oil spillage, and enables the collection of high-quality samples requested by geologists.”
The Explorac 235 offers customers an upgrade to the well-known Explorac 220RC, the company’s first rig designed for reverse circulation. Improvements built into the Explorac 235 model include a new rod handler, 35 bars of air pressure (over the previous 30), and a new and improved rig control system, RCS4.
“This launch is the first of several initiatives that will strengthen our position in the reverse circulation segment,” Sommers said.
The company says the updated Explorac improves efficiency, safety and reliability, and reduces impact on the environment. Atlas Copco also offers compressors, boosters and drill string to complete the reverse circulation package.
