The Pile Driving Contractors Association is holding a one-day course on the most up-to-date American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) load and resistance factor design (LRFD) specifications for structural and geotechnical limit states.

Jerry A. DiMaggio, P.E., D.GE., will present the course. DiMaggio is a principal at Jerry A. DiMaggio Consulting LLC, a civil engineering and construction consultancy. DiMaggio advises clients on issues of design, construction and monitoring of structural foundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvements and earthworks.

The event will be held June 4 at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport hotel in Milwaukee, Wis. It's intended for structural, geotechnical and generalist civil engineers, piling contractors and foundation materials suppliers. The training will help these groups:
  • Learn the basics and terminology of LRFD.
  • Understand the differences between traditional allowable stress design (ASD) and LRFD.
  • Get guidance on appropriate soil and rock property tests for subsurface investigations.
  • Apply LRFD guidance for strength, service and extreme events when it comes to structural and geotechnical limit states.
  • Understand LRFD guidance, founded in AASHTO specifications, to all aspects of driven pile projects.
Hotel rates are $99 per night. Call 414-764-5300.
