Layne Christensen Co., provider of products and services for the water, wastewater, mineral and energy markets, has named Ed McCullers its first general manager for Florida deep-well operations.

McCullers, who has more than 30 years of experience in well drilling and related fields, had been vice president of Youngquist Brothers Inc., in Fort Myers, Fla. He was responsible for contract administration, project management and overall responsibility for new deep-well projects from bid to closeout for the past 14 years.

“I’m pleased to be joining a company with the history and expertise that Layne Christensen has established in over a century of operations,” McCullers says. “I’m looking forward to bringing Layne Christensen into the deep-well arena in Florida.”

Founded in 1882 and based in Mission Woods, Kan., Layne Christensen has more than 50 offices across the country, including Florida offices in Pensacola and Lakeland. McCullers will open and manage a new office in Fort Myers.

“With his extensive background in all aspects of well drilling technology, operations and regulations, Ed McCullers brings unique expertise to Layne Christensen,” notes David Singleton, Layne’s vice president of Legacy Water.  “We are pleased that Ed has agreed to be our general manager for Florida deep-well operations.”

Municipal wastewater utilities in South Florida typically use deep-injection technology to safely dispose of the nutrient-rich fresh water that results from the wastewater treatment process. More than 125 deep injection wells are operating throughout South Florida.

Florida deep-well operations are part of Layne Christensen’s Water Resources Division, which provides water-related services and products, including hydrological studies, site selection, well design, drilling and well development, pump installation, and repair and maintenance.

Since 1882, the company has provided water well and mineral exploration drilling services through its predecessor companies – and now is the largest U.S. provider of water well drilling, well maintenance and environmental drilling services. Globally, Layne is among the world's largest providers of water well drilling and mineral exploration services. Its resources include more than 700 drilling rigs and associated capital equipment, 70 sales and operations offices, and more than 3,400 employees.
