The New England Water Well Association’s 2011 Expo took place March 25-26 in Fitchburg, Mass. That in itself was news as the event had been sited in another central Massachusetts town – Marlborough – for a good many years.

Otherwise, the event had a familiar feel to it as the folks in the Northeast truly know how to make a gathering lively and entertaining. At what other show will you see people walking around in bathrobes and shower caps?

The New England show marks the end of the heavy late-winter convention season, and it was inspiring to experience the buoyant and confident atmosphere of the event. It’s a hardy breed up there, and nothing less than a can (and will)-do attitude is even allowed to be considered.

At the convention center, more than 100 drilling and water industry vendors filled the exhibit hall with their latest offerings, and a total of nine hours of exhibition time over the two days of the show gave attendees ample opportunity to check out all the products, equipment and services being offered.

A stellar lineup of educational seminars (12 total hours) was presented, and convention-goers filled the classrooms to make sure they were on top of all the latest industry developments. Topics addressed included hydrofracturing, troubleshooting well problems, rig hydraulics, water conditioning, DOT compliance, well testing, business valuations and business management issues. And the slate of presenters delivering the seminars was top-notch, making them even more valuable.

As soon as all the plans are firmed up for the 2012 edition of the expo, we’ll be sure to pass them along.
