Schramm has released its new T500XD Telemast rig, which it touts as a “walking, talking” rig with a 500,000-pound hook load. The rig, Schramm says, is on its way to work in the Marcellus and Utica Shale.

The T500XD “sets a new standard with full 360-degree walking portability,” Schramm says, allowing the machine to quickly move from one hole to the next without the traditional limits of two-axis pad-mounted designs.

The rig also “talks,” working with third-party data acquisition providers through the Internet or dedicated satellite communications systems. Data can be made readily available to remote operations centers in multiple locations.

Schramm says the T500XD is equipped to perform horizontal and directional drilling to depths of 15,000 feet or more, and can control weight on bit without relying on drill collars and string weight alone. It has 35,000 foot-pounds of top-head torque, third-party directional steering interface and up to 80,000 pounds of hydraulic pulldown capacity. The rig also includes Schramm’s LoadSafe XD system, which can handle 24-inch diameter Range III tubulars weighing up to 10,000 lbs.

Schramm says this latest Telemast rig, which joins 200 Telemasts already at work in the field, offers a portable, innovative solution for drilling contractors and exploration and production firms.
