The Environmental Protection Agency and Lincoln University officials have announced a $15,000 grant to provide training for high school and college students interested in future careers in water-related environmental and scientific fields.

A Water Boot Camp will be held from July 23-27 at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., for students from Lincoln as well as local high schools. Students will become familiar with the essential concepts of water quality, treatment, and the operations and responsibilities of water utilities and professionals who are charged with providing clean, safe, potable water.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Missouri American Water Co. will provide experts in water quality to serve as teachers during the boot camp. The educational sessions consist of lectures, group activities, laboratory tasks, tours of facilities, field trips, information about geographic information systems, and water meter testing.
