Boart Longyear Introduces TruCore Core Orientation System for Drillers
Company’s First Instrumentation Solution Increases Drilling Efficiency
Boart Longyear is releasing TruCore, the first product in its first-ever line of instrumentation solutions. The company calls TruCore’s integrated core orientation system an industry pioneer that increases productivity and reduces cost.
“While essential for mapping exploration and mine site development, core orientation is a part of the drilling process that has only experienced incremental product improvements through small changes to the process and equipment, until now,” says Chris Lambert, global product manager for Boart Longyear.
TruCore decreases spending by reducing the number of parts drillers need to maintain a core orientation system. Its core marking technology makes for a faster drilling process by allowing one tool to always be in the hole.
“The ability to send a second TruCore tool down immediately after the first tool is retrieved combined with wireless communication means core readings can be taken without having to break a joint in the inner tube,” Lambert says.
Measurements are sent to a hand-held, pocket-sized controller using optical communication. This keeps the drill string assembled. The control device confirms measurements and minimizes errors as it simultaneously controls the two core orientation instruments. Bright flashing LEDs reduce total measurement time by directing alignment.
TruCore comes in sizes BQ through PQ.
TruCore will be officially launched at the Australian Drilling Industry Association’s (ADIA) Drill 2014 conference on August 19-22. It will be available in Australia only during 2014 and will be released to other regions around the world in 2015.
The next products in Boart Longyear’s new instrumentation solution line, TruShot and TruProbe, will be available in late 2014 and 2015. They also will bring more technology to drillers so more information and value can be offered to clients.
