Liebherr Construction Equipment Co. is expanding its sales and distribution of earthmoving and material handling equipment with the opening of a new spare parts warehouse in Visalia, Calif.

The new facility, slated to open in early 2015, will allow the company to offer localized parts warehousing to the western U.S. Liebherr is headquartered in Newport News, W.Va., and expects the additional location to speed up the delivery process and increase customer satisfaction.

“This represents a significant step forward in our customer support,” says Peter Mayr, president of Liebherr Construction Equipment. “We continue to invest in our operations to ensure we provide our dealer network and customers with the exceptional support they expect from Liebherr.”

The California expansion accompanies a $45.4 million renovation of the West Virginia warehouse and a new facility in Kirchdorf, Germany.

The headquarters revamp includes a new Warehouse Management System (WMS), more than 100,000 square feet of epoxy flooring to withstand high traffic and heavy material, and eight new loading docks.

“The new WMS offers a multitude of functions that will optimize the overall logistics and support the daily operations of the facility ... it will provide a transparent work flow and enhance the visibility of the activities at each of the warehouse terminals; from receiving thru shipping,in addition to providing inventory accuracy,” says Martin Seitz, WMS project coordinator at Liebherr Mining Equipment.

The new spare parts and logistics center in Germany is expected to open its doors in early 2015. The location is projected to serve as the global logistics hub for earthmoving spare parts. A large part of the project has included the installation of automated warehouse equipment and software that will improve performance standards.
