The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) has appointed Gerald Verbeek of Verbeek Management Services (VMS) to its Testing and Evaluation Committee chair position. Verbeck succeeds Don Robertson of Applied Foundation Testing, who led the committee since 2013.

Verbeek’s VMS is a consulting business that specializes in providing detailed recommendations for geotechnical equipment and practices, most often regarding foundation testing and seismic cone penetration testing (SCPT). Verbeek founded the firm in 2004 after two decades in the oil and gas industry.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Delft University of Technology and a master’s degree in structural engineering.

An active promoter of foundation and soil testing, Verbeek is an Allnamics USA expert. The group of geotechnical professionals is heavily involved in pile driving simulation and analysis with impact and vibratory hammers. He is also a member of the Transportation Research Board, ASTM, Pile Driving Contractors Association and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

The DFI Testing and Evaluation Technical Committee consists of industry professionals experienced in the use, understanding and advancement of instrumentation, monitoring and testing methods for the inspection, construction, and integrity and capacity analysis of deep foundation systems.

The DFI is an international association of contractors, engineers, academics and suppliers in the deep foundations industry with more than 3,300 members worldwide. For more information about the Deep Foundations Institute, visit www.dfi.org.
