Liebherr has unveiled a new piling and drilling rig, the LRB 355. The new deep foundations machine is designed for easy transport and mobilization.

The company publicly showed the rig for the first time at a recent customer event at its facility in Nenzing, Austria.

The undercarriage, basic machine and kinematics of the LRB 355 build on the design of the company’s successful series of pure drilling rigs. In a release, Liebherr says the undercarriage, with the longest tracks in its class, guarantees the rig a high level of stability. The LRB 355 features two available configurations with a maximum height of 33.5 meters and maximum weight of about 100 tons (without attachments. The engine is a V12 diesel that complies with Tier-4 final and European emissions standards. The engine, which offers 600 kW, can be upgraded to 750 kW.

An optional elevated work platform for the rig gives crews safe and each access to attachments and to the rotary. This facilitates tool assembly and maintenance at the jobsite.

Liebherr says it designed the LRB 355 with special attention to fuel efficiency. The engine runs at a reduced operating speed of 1,700 rpm. In addition, an available option allows for automatic engine stop control, which switches the machine off during longer work breaks, saving fuel. Liebherr says the engine’s “eco silent” mode lets engine speed be reduced to a predefined, required level, cutting diesel consumption without affecting output.

The LRB 355 can be mobilized quickly and transported easily, according to Liebherr. It can be moved with the leader, multisledge and rope still attached, and to minimize the transportation length the leader can be folded. No additional tools are needed to fold the leader and mount the counterweight.

The new rig was designed for drilling with full displacement tool, but with Liebherr attachments can work in rotary, continuous flight auger, soil mixing, and piling jobs with either a vibratory or hydraulic hammer.

Liebherr’sproduct range includes earthmoving and material handling machinery, mining equipment, mobile cranes, construction cranes, machine tools and automation systems as well as high-performance components for mechanical, hydraulic and electrical drive and control technology.
