John A. Hayes, PE, DIC, president of Loadtest Inc., will be the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Osterberg Memorial Lecturer for 2018. He will present his address at IFCEE 2018, held March 5-10, in Orlando, Fla.

The honor recognizes Hayes for pioneering work with Osterberg cell (O-cell) load tests. Hayes, as one of the founders of Loadtest, has helped transform high-capacity load testing worldwide. This includes all aspect of O-cell testing, including administration, project development, specification, field assembly and installation, instrumentation, analysis and reporting. During his tenure, Loadtest has carried out more than 1,000 O-cell bi-directional load tests.

Hayes’ Osterberg lecture will take place at 7:30 a.m. March 8 at the conference hotel, the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace. The IFCEE, held every third year, is hosted by the DFI, ADSC (The International Association of Foundation Drilling), ASCE Geo-Institute and the Pile Driving Contractors Association (PDCA).

John A. “Jack” Hayes is a graduate of Queens University, Kingston, with a B.Sc. in civil engineering. He conducted post graduate studies in soil mechanics, obtaining the D.I.C. from Imperial College, London, in 1962. He is a registered professional engineer and a member of the ASCE.

The DFI’s Osterberg Memorial Lecture and Award honor Dr. Jori O. Osterberg and his legacy of innovations in engineering design and testing of deep foundations construction.
