Grundfos will provide sanitary water and related infrastructure during global humanitarian efforts by Doctors Without Borders, as part of a partnership between the two organizations, the company announced.

“More than 800,000 people die each year from diseases caused by a lack of access to clean water. Clean water is a decisive element to prevent and handle the spread of diseases such as cholera and diphtheria, which we are combatting in conflict torn countries,” said Jesper Brix, director for Doctors Without Borders’ Danish office.

Access to water can be problematic when Doctors Without Borders works to save human lives in some of the world’s worst catastrophe-stricken areas. The partnership with Grundfos will help to ensure clean water for the organization and local communities.

For years, Doctors Without Borders has responded to crises across the globe, providing medical care from its teams of experts. Following a catastrophe, an important part of their work is to establish proper sanitary conditions before they can administer care – and access to quality water is of the utmost importance.

The partnership between Doctors Without Borders and Grundfos will target this very problem, providing access to solar-powered pump solutions and expert knowledge and guidance, establishing functioning water systems and related infrastructure.

“I am very pleased that we, with this agreement, create a closer collaboration between Grundfos and Doctors Without Borders in the fight against waterborne diseases,” said Brix.

“Water is exceptionally important. Not just to our company, but to the world. Each day, we work to ensure water to human beings globally, and we are very pleased to be able to support Doctors Without Borders in their vital work to relieve some of the world’s large humanitarian catastrophes,” said Mads Nipper, Grundfos CEO.

The partnership was formally announced at a meeting at Grundfos headquarters in Bjerringbro, Denmark in early June.

Grundfos is a manufacturer of pump solutions and water technology, including pumps, standard and submersible motors, and electronics for monitoring and controlling pumps. Since its inception in 1945, the company has grown from one factory in Denmark to a global corporation comprising more than 80 companies and over 18,800 employees.
