Drilling fluids get a bad rap. But there are safe and economical ways to dispose of this common drilling byproduct. On today’s Ask Brock, episode 71, host Brock Yordy advises contractors on how to effectively, safely and economically dispose of all that circulated drilling mud.

“Drilling fluids isn’t the issue with disposal, especially if we’re using NSF Standard 60 or 61 certified fluids,” he says. “It’s the fact that when we start the disruptive drilling process we get into heavy metals, other things in the soil that we can’t control.”

So, how can drillers minimize their waste to begin with, and properly dispose of the waste they do generate during drilling?

“The best thing is just a good drilling program from the beginning,” Yordy says.
